Ring girls at Tyndall Armory

One of my first (re-)introductions to ring girls was about 1969 at the Circle Theater in Indianapolis, when Ford Motor Company introduced its next-year model

lines with a Hollywood-style movie, with such segments as "Mustang," and "Galaxy 500." These were exciting movies for my brothers and me, since they

were nascent gearheads and my dad was a salesman for Smart and Perry Ford. [These days my brothers are helpful at finding hard-to-get parts for vehicles on eBay

(thanks for finding the part for my 1979 Dodge Adventurer on eBay this week, Scott).]

At the Ford movie showing, in between each model-line feature, a ring girl came out with a giant card with the name of the car next featured. I knew what

a ring girl was since I was addicted to ABC's Wide World of Sports, which we watched every Saturday on the TV; sometimes boxing was featured

(this being in the days before pay-per-view). Anyway, Dad always took us to the dealership's cookouts and parties, which provided a break to Mom. I don't think

we ever mentioned the ring girls to her.

The lady pictured here was at Tyndall Armory, Feb. 17, 2007. (Don't tell your mom, OK?)
